EXIF metadata is useful — but it is not proof

EXIF can help: camera model, timestamps, software strings — all provide context.

But EXIF is not cryptographically protected by default, and can be stripped or edited.

How CanonProof uses metadata

  • Plausibility checks (timestamps/tool strings)
  • Consistency signals (thumbnail vs full image)
  • Supportive context in the explanation

We treat metadata as a signal, not a verdict.
