Terms of Service

The rules for using CanonProof, including acceptable use, certificates, billing, retention, and liability.

Last updated: 1 November 2025
Acceptable use Public verification Liability limits

1. What CanonProof Is

CanonProof provides automated analysis to assess the authenticity and integrity of digital artifacts (e.g., images, PDFs). We issue a cryptographically signed certificate and public verification page. CanonProof does not adjudicate factual truth, events, or context surrounding a file.

Important: CanonProof is evidence integrity infrastructure — it helps assess manipulation and provenance signals, but it does not determine what “really happened”.

2. Accounts & Access

  • You are responsible for your account, credentials, and activity performed under your account.
  • You will only upload files you have the right to process and that do not violate law or third-party rights.
  • You will not attempt to overload, probe, or circumvent platform security.

3. Acceptable Use

  • No malware, illegal content, or content violating privacy, IP, or court orders.
  • No sharing of private material without lawful basis or consent.
  • No attempts to mislead by fabricating metadata or chained evidence.

4. Certificates & Public Verification

Each verification produces a signed certificate (JWS/JSON) with a public ID. Certificates and the public verification page may be visible to anyone with the link. Do not include confidential data in filenames or notes.

5. Retention

Retention is applied per verification at the time of issuance based on your plan (e.g., Free: 7 days; Pro: 12 months; Legal: 3 years). Retention is not retroactive on plan changes. See Retention Policy.

6. Billing

Paid plans and usage are billed via our payment provider (e.g., Stripe). Taxes (e.g., VAT) may apply. You are responsible for keeping your billing information current. Failed or reversed payments may suspend service.

7. Service Changes

We may update features, limits, and policies. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.

8. Disclaimers & Liability

CanonProof is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and limit liability for indirect or consequential loss. In all cases, our aggregate liability is limited to the amount paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Law & Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales (unless your mandatory local law states otherwise). Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
